About the fund.........................

The 2002 Charge Conference established the Aloma United Methodist Church Permanent Endowment Fund.

It was established to provide members and friends of Aloma a vehicle through which to make charitable gifts to the church that will become a permanent endowment.  This "living memorial" by the donor will be used to support ministries and religious activities that may not otherwise be supported through the annual operating budget.

The activities of the fund are administered by the AUMC Permanent Endowment Fund Committee who are guided by and delegated authority as outlined in "The Book of Discipline of the United Methodist Church" and granted by the Charge Conference.

The Florida United Methodist Foundation, Inc. will serve as the fund custodian for all fund assets. Gifts to the fund will be guided by the Gift Acceptance Policy as outlined in the fund summary. Further inquiries may be made to the Permanent Endowment Committee.

Gifts to the fund..................

Gifts to the Permanent Endowment Fund may be made by a direct gift through your will or trust or other instrument by the donor.

Designated gifts may also be accepted by the endowment committee and distributed as the donor directs. The endowment committee will consider gifts of any kind and through various avenues.

Your endowment fund is a way you can leave a legacy to your church that will support ministries for years to come. Please consult your attorney or tax advisor who can help you structure a will or trust that will aid you in avoiding unnecessary taxation to your estate. The appropriate beneficiary designation to use in your will or trust to benefit Aloma is "The Aloma United Methodist Church Permanent Endowment Fund."

Purposes of the permanent endowment fund (PEF) and duties:

    • Provides a conduit for receiving gifts from estates and trusts after the death of the donor.  Assumption that all such gifts are intended to be held as a permanent legacy unless otherwise instructed by the donor.
    • Lifetime gifts may also be directed to the PEF.
    • Means of discouraging “permanent” gifts that the church is unprepared or unable to accept or administer.
    • Mechanism to encourage estate planning for church members.
    • Mechanism for giving beyond the continual lifetime giving that supports budgets and special projects.
    • PEF, through distribution of investment income, provides for church needs that can not be provided or expected from regular budget giving.  It is not intended to replace annual pledged giving for operating budget, building funds, or other specially solicited funds.
    • Provides another tool for educating the congregation as to stewardship responsibilities.

    • PEF establishes Gift Acceptance Policy and mechanism for applying annual income as requested from time to time.
    • Committee oversees investment management of PEF and other designated permanent funds.
    • Principal of the PEF should only be withdrawn under extreme emergency conditions and with knowledge and consent of the congregation.
