Who We Are

Aloma United Methodist Church is a church with a rich past which is looking to the future.  For the past 50+ years we have been ministering to the people in East Orlando and to the ends of the earth.  We invite you to join us as we continue to touch lives in this city and beyond.

We are part of the Methodist movement founded by John and Charles Wesley.  The Wesley brothers were innovators in their time, writing contemporary music, helping to end the slave trade, educating underprivileged kids, breaking people free of addictions through the power of Jesus Christ, and helping people find true community.

We are proud to continue in that heritage, helping people find Jesus Christ, and find relief for very practical needs.  Whatever your age, whatever your situation in life, we believe you will find something that will speak to your deepest longings at Aloma.

If you have questions about our church or about life, please feel free to contact our pastor, Rev. Jim Govatos.

Salvation

Salvation is a word that isn’t used in everyday conversation much anymore.  It is related to the word “save,” as in saving someone from drowning.  We believe that Jesus Christ came into the world to save people from the guilt of their sins and from death.  He did this by dying on the cross and rising from the dead.  He died in our place by bearing the guilt of our sins on the cross.  This means that no matter who you are or what you have done in life, you can be set free from the death sentence all people deserve.  The only catch is, you have to grab hold of Jesus, just as a drowning person has to grab hold of a lifeguard in order to be saved from drowning.  Doing so is as simple as A, B, C: Admit that you have a burden of sin you can’t take care of by yourself, Believe that Jesus through His death and resurrection can rescue you, Commit yourself to Him by surrendering to His care.  When you let Jesus rescue you, you are saved indeed: saved from meaninglessness in this life and from the hell of separation from God in eternity.
